About
A Donkey and a Persimmon
The origins of Project Persimmon go all the way back to the early 1990's on Thanksgiving Day. After eating a delicious Thanksgiving meal that included, you guessed it, persimmon pudding, my cousins and I made our way out to my papaw & mamaw's front yard to a persimmon tree that was dropping persimmons. It was my first handling the fruit (or are persimmons actually berries?) in the non-processed form. So, we did what most pre-teen boys do when they find something round- we threw them! And while we might have thrown them at one another a couple times, the favorite target that day was the neighbor's donkey!

Fast forward 20 years and a woodsmen in Daviess County, Indiana introduced me to the concept of eating raw persimmons right off the ground. I always thought you couldn't eat a persimmon unless it had been processed or else you would get cotton mouth! Boy, was I wrong. Raw persimmons became a heartfelt passion of mine from that time on.

Ever since, I have been tasting, processing, planting and grafting persimmons. Our persimmon farm hosts some of the finest grafted persimmon varieties in southern Indiana. We exist to provide the full enjoyment of the American Persimmon to whatever setting you desire- your home, homestead, or recreational property. We want you to enjoy the persimmon as it was divinely intended. (Yes, Persimmon in the latin means "divine fruit.")
